Where do I start? It’s hard to talk about yourself and be completely honest. Some people would undersell themselves and others exaggerate far too much. I promise to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

When did I start sewing?
I am a fourth generation seamstress, birthed from a line of talented creative women. My maternal grandmother was taught by her mother, which was passed to my mother, her daughter and then to me. I also had a relative who I had always known as Uncle Taylor and it was until his death that I was told that he was only called ‘ Tailor’ because it was his profession.

Why did I take up sewing?
Well I was surrounded by sewing from as far back as I can remember, so naturally I fell in to sewing. I remember being given a Cindy doll for Christmas and I started making her clothes. She had mini skirts, knickerbockers and jackets. Just before my sixteenth birthday I noticed in the window of our local newsagents a for sale advert for a Singer sewing machine. I had been working part time since I was 13, so I told my mother that I was going to save to buy the sewing machine. Mum was a single parent working hard to provide for my sister and me. I did not want to burden her with the extra finance. But true to form my loving mother purchased the sewing machine from an elderly lady who lived in the next street from us.

I am now on my fourth sewing machine and I have been very fortunate as they have stood up to my hours of sewing.
