It all started over 15yrs ago…..
I was encouraged by the feedback from family, friends and people at my church when I would design greeting cards and calendars for them. At the time there was little choice for Christians and also for people of African or Caribbean heritage to purchase products that were contemporary and embraced their culture.
Fast forward to 2012…..
I have always had it in the back of my mind all these years and now circumstances led me to revisit the idea of using my graphic design and illustration skills to create Christian and African/Caribbean inspired products. OK, so what do I call this business? After brainstorming for what seemed like an eternity, it was revealed to me.
What’s in a name?
I wanted a name to represent the variety of beautiful and unique products for a range of different people and was inspired by an image of the Garden of Eden. I believe it was divine revelation when it came to me to call the business Garden of Delights because the initials spelt the name G.o.D – the source of my inspiration!
The next step was to design the logo…..
One Sunday afernoon, whilst sat in church listening to the sermon, I felt compelled to scribble down some ideas that were floating around in my head, but I had no paper. All I had were a couple of small brown envelopes that are used to put in money to pay your tithes. As I had no other choice, I started sketching the ideas onto the envelopes. Using the initials as part of the logo, I worked on shaping the letters to form a heart because ‘God is love’ and all that I was doing came from the heart.
After several months of planning, the company was finally set up in September 2013.
