Greetings! I’m Alia, a 30-something ’90s baby, self-proclaimed peculiar introvert nerd with a passion for science and nature working harmoniously for the greater good.
Growing up, I earned the nickname “The Crazy Scientist” due to my love for crafting, learning new skills, and biology. My childhood spanned Sao Tome e Principe, Portugal, Russia, Angola, Belgium, before settling in the United Kingdom.
As the eldest of two girls, my experience in Portugal as a black girl from an African country wasn’t a breezy one. Despite the challenges, I embraced my creative spirit and became fascinated with botany, the scientific study of plants. My journey led me to self-educate on DIY recipes, particularly for hair and skincare, driven by my struggle with eczema triggered by the HPV shot.
My passion for botany evolved into making homemade products, and my fascination with the power of plants grew. Armed with a degree and three years in a laboratory, I explored the world of organic ingredients and the science behind their efficacy.
In 2012, after a significant “big chop,” I transitioned to a natural approach to haircare. Despite making mistakes along the way, my hair thrived through homemade recipes, prompting inquiries from family and friends. In 2014, Creative Alia was born, offering handmade haircare and skincare products, accessories, and merchandise with positive messages for the underrepresented African diaspora.
After ups and downs, Creative Alia was reinvented in February 2020. Today, we provide raw, handmade, natural hair and body products, vegan-friendly, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free. Our mission is to empower those with curly, coily, and kinky hair worldwide, making the world a happier and healthier place.
